James M. Crawford, M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Crawford is Senior Vice President and Executive Director of Laboratory Services for the Northwell Health system, overseeing the integrated laboratory network for 21 hospitals and serving over 500 ambulatory practice sites. He also is Professor and Chair of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine. A leading proponent of the role of pathology and the clinical laboratory industry in patient-centered care and value-based care, Dr. Crawford provides leadership in developing the value statements for laboratory diagnostic services. He is Editor-in-Chief of Academic Pathology, the official journal of the Association of Pathology Chairs (APC), and is past Editor-in-Chief of Laboratory Investigation, an official journal of the U.S. and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP). Crawford has served as President of the APC, as chair of the Council of Academic Societies of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), and on the AAMC Board of Directors. Crawford received his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from Duke University School of Medicine, and his post-graduate training in anatomic pathology and gastrointestinal pathology at Brigham and Women's Hospital, followed by a fellowship in hepatic pathology at the Royal Free Hospital in London.
